President Uhuru Kenyatta's nomination of Nancy Gathungu for the Auditor General position has taken a significant step forward, with the National Assembly Finance and Planning Committee endorsing her for the role.
Published on July 16, 2020, Gathungu emerged as the top candidate among three nominees, and her endorsement marks a crucial milestone in the process of filling the vacant position.
As the Auditor General, Gathungu will serve a non-renewable 8-year term, during which she will play a crucial role in streamlining the process of reporting results among parastatals.
State corporations such as Kenya Power, KenGen, and East Africa Portland Cement have previously delayed their results due to the absence of an Auditor General, as required by the Public Audit Act.
However, the Capital Markets Authority had approved the release of results for state-owned enterprises in March, despite the absence of an Auditor General.
