On July 15, 2020, Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong appeared in court to face corruption charges related to a trip to Germany.

According to the charges, Ojaamong and other senior officials of his government allegedly conspired to defraud the county of Sh8 million during the trip.

Ojaamong denied the allegations, stating that the trip was a familiarisation visit to learn about solid waste management in Germany.

He claimed that the county delegation, including members of the press, visited several places in Germany to learn about waste management and even signed a memorandum of understanding with Madam-R Enterprises to spearhead the exercise.

However, the prosecution alleged that the trip was a leisure trip and that Ojaamong conspired to defraud the county.

Ojaamong is being represented by Senior Counsel James Orengo and Mr Stephen Ligunya.

Also charged alongside Ojaamong are County Executive Committee member Bernard Yaite, Finance Chief Officer Allan Ekweny, and treasury head Samuel Ombui.
