Published on July 16, 2020, a study has found a correlation between slow walking pace and a higher risk of severe Covid-19 symptoms.

Researchers in the UK analyzed data from 414,201 participants in the UK Biobank and discovered that slow walkers were at a higher risk of severe Covid-19, regardless of their obesity status.

While obesity was found to be a risk factor for Covid-19, slow walkers were found to have the highest risk of severe forms of the disease.

According to the study, people who have a normal BMI but walk at a slow pace have more than double the odds of developing severe Covid-19 compared to those who walk briskly.

"Self-reported walking pace, a simple measure of functional fitness, appears to be a risk factor for severe Covid-19 that is independent of obesity," the scientists said.
