On July 15, 2020, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) announced the appointment of Ceda Ogada as its new Secretary and Director of the Secretary's Department, effective September 1, 2020.
Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the IMF, praised Mr. Ogada's 'outstanding institutional knowledge, strategic and intellectual heft, and people leadership' in a statement.
Mr. Ogada brings over two decades of experience to the role, having joined the IMF's Legal Department in 1999 and rising through the ranks to become Deputy General Counsel in 2014.
During his tenure, he has worked on various key projects, including the Fund's enhanced policy to address governance and corruption issues, and reforms in lending policy such as the establishment of the Flexible Credit Line (FCL) and the Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust (CCRT).
Mr. Ogada was also heavily involved in the work on euro area crisis countries during the global financial crisis and has led the Legal Department's work in promoting good governance and transparency in several countries, including with respect to the use of emergency financing for the COVID-19 crisis.
