On July 16, 2020, Dr. Michael Munene, a landlord in Nyandarua county, made headlines for offering a rent waiver to his tenants due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now, he has done it once more, extending the waiver by another month, allowing his tenants to go without paying rent for a total of five months.

Dr. Munene owns 28 residential houses and six commercial stores at Ndunyu Njeru trading center, which he rents out for Sh3,000 and Sh5,000 per month respectively.

By waiving rent, Dr. Munene has sacrificed a total of Sh456,000 in rental income over the past four months.

According to Dr. Munene, the waiver will help his tenants afford food and other basic needs for their families.

“I know that they are going through hard times and since God has blessed me with rental houses, it is good that I also extend his mercies to them,” Dr. Munene said.

One of his tenants, Jane Muthoni, described Dr. Munene as a heaven sent landlord, saying, “This is a God sent landlord. We will now be able to feed our children and also clothe them during these hard times.”
