On July 16, 2020, Kenya's Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe expressed concern over the sudden and steady rise in Covid-19 deaths.
According to Kagwe, the country reported eight more Covid-19 related deaths on the day, bringing the total number of fatalities to 217.
‘Sadly, we have eight deaths (today),’ Kagwe announced.

Additionally, Kagwe announced plans to invest more in healthcare, even in the midst of the response to Covid-19.
During his visit to Nakuru County, Kagwe launched the Primary Healthcare Strategic Framework and the Community Health Policy.
He praised Nakuru for surpassing the 300-bed capacity and aiming to go to 1000 beds, as well as for training 551 community health workers and recruiting 68 interns.
Meanwhile, 421 new coronavirus cases were registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 11,673.
Some 570 people have been discharged, totalling 3,638.
