Published on July 15, 2020, Dr Doreen Lugaliki, a frontline worker in the fight against COVID-19, was set to walk down the aisle in November this year.
She was engaged to Fred Mboss, 45, who was based in Nairobi and had planned to visit Lugaliki's parents in Bungoma to ask for their blessings.
According to Mboss, the couple had begun making wedding plans, which included a visit to Lugaliki's parents and dowry payments.
"I loved her because of her beauty, character, and brains. Our parents were happy when we told them and they promised to support us," Mboss said.
However, Lugaliki's life was cut short when she contracted COVID-19 in the line of duty. She fell sick on July 5 and was diagnosed with diabetes and later tested positive for the disease on July 7.
Her condition worsened, and she succumbed to the respiratory illness on Friday, July 10.
Mboss remembered Lugaliki fondly, saying, "I will miss her beautiful smile, her bright brains, her company, and who she was to me."
Lugaliki was buried on Monday, July 13, at her parents' home in Bungoma, leaving behind two daughters, Kyla Ndinda and Kyle Kimilu, who were twins.
