On July 15, 2020, Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko addressed concerns from the Senate committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources regarding the government's intentions to repossess land claimed to belong to the Kenya Forest Service.

According to Tobiko, the government will follow the recommendations of the Ndung'u Land Commission to compel the purported land owners to surrender the titles. He stated that the purported title holders would be issued with a long-term lease or special user licenses on new terms and conditions after surrendering the title document for cancellation.

Tobiko emphasized that the government would pursue all professionals and public officials who participated in the illegal allocations, as well as recover all monies and proceeds from the allocations and sale of the land.

Residents from various estates, including Lang'ata Gardens, Silverline, Kenya Medical Association estates, and Beige investments Ltd, have sought interim restraining orders against the planned demolitions, with a full hearing scheduled for July 28.
