On July 15, 2020, Zoom unveiled a new touchscreen display, 'Zoom for Home,' designed to capitalize on its pandemic-powered popularity.
The 27-inch display, priced at $599 (approximately Sh64,000), is customized for collaborating online using Zoom and will compete with Portal screens made by Facebook.
According to Zoom chief executive Eric Yuan, the company needed to innovate a new category dedicated to remote workers after experiencing remote work itself for several months.
Zoom collaborated with videoconferencing firm DTEN on the displays, which are set to begin shipping in August.
The devices will work 'out of the box' as long as users have a license to use the service.
Zoom cited an IBM study that found 61 percent of respondents wanted remote work to be the primary way they do their jobs.
As employers and employees work through the future of work, IDC senior research analyst Rich Costello emphasized the importance of setting people up for success with the right devices to enable productivity.
