On July 14, 2020, gospel musician Betty Bayo shared a candid interview on her YouTube page, where she spoke about her past relationship with pastor Victor Kanyari.
Bayo expressed regret for staying silent for so long about her alleged marriage to Kanyari, which she described as a 'come-we-fight' arrangement.
She revealed that she moved in with Kanyari just three weeks after meeting him, without any formal wedding or legal documents.
According to Bayo, Kanyari told her to tell anyone who asked that they had tied the knot in a private ceremony.
Bayo blamed her naivety for her actions, saying it was the only way she could explain the rush with which she entered into the relationship.
She also spoke about the various fights she had during their time together, but emphasized that she had no regrets about her past.
Bayo made it clear that her children are her world and that she is focused on the future, using her interview to reach out to women who may be going through similar experiences.
She also disclosed that she suffered from depression and high blood pressure during this period.
The couple's relationship ended after an investigative feature by Mohamed Ali, alias Moha Jicho Pevu, exposed alleged scams at Kanyari's church, including the use of potassium permanganate to trick congregants.
