On July 15, 2020, a Nairobi court heard graft charges against former Chairman of National Industrial Training Authority board, Professor Thomas Ekamais Akuja, and two other officials.
Professor Akuja, accountant Isaac Symekah Gwako Okiomera, and acting director general and accounting officer Francis Mindo Gitaka denied the charges revolving around Sh 1,681,534.
Professor Akuja is accused of unlawfully acquiring public property, including Sh 1,681,534 as allowance for meetings he did not attend and visits he did not make.
He is also facing two counts of knowingly giving to his principal NITA board false documents, including a taxi receipt and another receipt showing taxi expenses.
Okiomera and Gitaka are accused of using their offices to improperly confer a benefit of Sh 1,681,534 to Professor Akuja by authorizing payment without supporting documents.
The three are alleged to have committed the offence between 2013 and 2014.
They denied the charges before Anti-corruption court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti.
Okiomera and Gitaka were released on a bond of 500,000 or alternative cash bail of Sh 150,000.
The case will be mentioned on 29th July 2020 for pre-trial and plea taking of the former chairman.
