Kenya has reported a sharp increase in coronavirus infections, with 11,252 cases recorded by July 15, 2020.
On July 15, 2020, the country recorded 461 new infections from 4,261 samples tested since Tuesday, with 51 patients discharged after recovering from the virus.
According to Dr. Rashid Aman, a Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Health, 3,068 people have recovered from coronavirus since mid-March when the virus was first detected in the country.
Dr. Aman emphasized the need for Kenyans to comply with containment measures to prevent the spread of the virus, as the country remains under a night curfew imposed three months ago.
Bars remain closed, and restrictions are in place for large gatherings, political meetings, and rallies. Churches have been allowed to reopen under strict guidelines, but many remain closed due to fear of COVID-19 infections.
Seven more patients succumbed to coronavirus in Kenya on Wednesday, raising the death toll to 209, with the youngest being a one-year-old infant and the oldest being an 86-year-old man.
