On July 15, 2020, National Assembly Majority Leader Amos Kimunya made his presence felt in parliament with a stern warning to lazy committee members.
Kimunya, the Kipipiri MP, emphasized that it would not be business as usual, vowing to remove any committee member who does not attend meetings.
“Those who do not attend the meetings have no business being members of those committees. They should be removed,” Kimunya said.
He noted that some committee members were not taking their roles seriously, which affects the operations of the committee.
Kimunya also stated that he would take up the matter as the Majority Leader and would report any committee member who does not attend four sittings.
The Speaker of National Assembly Justin Muturi confirmed that some Members had been receiving allowances for meetings they did not attend and risk being withdrawn from those Committees.
Both the chair, vice-chair, and ordinary Committee members earn a substantial amount of money in the form of allowance per sitting.
