Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has been accused of conspiring to defraud the county government of Ksh.8 million. However, the governor has denied any involvement in the alleged scam.

According to the governor, he never conspired with any of the accused persons to defraud the County Government of Busia of the Ksh.8 million. He also denied that his team went to Germany for leisure as alleged.

During an unsworn testimony, the governor stated that the County Executive consulted stakeholders and the county assembly before making any decisions. He wondered how three out of the 12 executive members who attended the meeting for the waste project were listed as prosecution witnesses but never testified that there was a plan to conspire the said monies.

The governor also stated that the County assembly of Busia approved the allocation of the budget and they knew what the money was going to do. He emphasized that they needed the approval of the elected members of the assembly.

It is worth noting that in May this year, trial magistrate Douglous Ogoti ruled that Ojaamong and eight others have a case to answer in the 8 million shillings graft case. The court ruled that a prima facie case has been established against all the accused and they were put on their defence.
