Deputy President William Ruto has been accused of switching from his 'Lord of the Hustle' image to the 'Lord of Poverty' by renowned political scientist Mutahi Ngunyi.
On July 15, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered two Kiambu-based artisans, Mungai Gathogo and Joseph Muhinja, to deliver 500 hospital beds to various hospitals in the country.
As part of the order, the Head of State promised the artisans technical skills and equipment through the numerical machining complex to hasten production and improve quality.
However, Ngunyi questioned Ruto's decision to purchase benches from Jua Kali artisans instead of hospital beds for the sick, just like President Kenyatta did.
"Why did the HUSTLER buy BENCHES to be placed at jobless CORNERS? Why not buy HOSPITAL beds from the YOUTH, the way PRESIDENT KENYATTA did?" Ngunyi wondered in a tweet.
Currently, the innovators behind the locally manufactured hospital beds employ 7 young Kenyans and produce the beds at Sh 65,000 each, with plans to hire more youth to ensure maximum production.
