Published on July 15, 2020, a study by Kings College London has made a startling discovery about COVID-19 symptoms. The researchers found that one in 11 people show signs of skin rashes, a symptom that could be a sign of the disease.
More than 20,000 people participated in the study, which used data from the Kings College Covid Symptom Tracker app. The app has over 300,000 users and provides valuable insights into the symptoms of COVID-19.
According to the study, nine percent of those infected with COVID-19 also suffered from skin rashes. This is a significant finding, as it suggests that skin rashes could be a more specific indicator of COVID-19 than the currently recognized symptoms of fever, continuous cough, and loss of smell or taste.
Lead researcher Dr. Mario Falchi said that COVID-19 patients reported suffering from skin rashes for weeks, which is much longer than the three NHS symptoms. Dr. Falchi emphasized the importance of increased awareness among the public and healthcare professionals regarding COVID-19 skin changes.
Professor Tim Spector, an epidemiologist at Kings College, also commented on the study. He stated that Britain was missing 'the majority of cases' because it was 'out of line with the rest of the world.' He also noted that skin rashes could be a predictive indicator of having a positive COVID-19 test, but GPs and NHS 111 are often unaware of it.
