Published on July 15, 2020, Harrison Mumia, the president of Atheists in Kenya, has spoken out about the challenges he faces due to his religious beliefs.

Mumia claims that his atheism has cost him numerous job opportunities, including a recent interview at Kenya Airways. He alleges that he performed well in the interview, but was ultimately rejected due to his religious background.

"I have applied for hundreds of jobs. This particular job at KQ, I got to the last stage of the interview. I did pretty well, better than the others. But my atheism stood in the way of me getting a job. We face discrimination," Mumia tweeted.

He also revealed that he was sacked from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) due to the same reasons.

Some Twitter users responded to Mumia's post, with some expressing surprise that he had not lied about his religious beliefs during the interview, while others argued that employers should not discriminate against employees based on their religion.
