On 15 July 2020, the Premier League and English Football League (EFL) announced the summer transfer windows for the 2020-21 season. The windows will be open for 10 weeks, from 27 July to 5 October, subject to FIFA approval.

Additionally, the Premier League and EFL have agreed to a domestic-only window between 5-16 October. During this period, clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs, either through loans or permanent registrations, as stated in a Premier League statement.

"During this window, clubs will only be able to trade with EFL clubs (either loans or permanent registrations)," said the Premier League statement.

Clubs in the Premier League will not be able to make any transfers during this period, according to the EFL.

The EFL also announced that any new signings by its clubs will not be able to play until the start of the 2020-21 season. This applies to clubs involved in the Championship play-offs, as explained in an EFL statement.

"The window for international registrations closes at 23:00 BST on Monday, 5 October, with an agreement in place with the Premier League for an extended two-week domestic-only window, which will close at 17:00 on Friday, 16 October," the EFL added.

There has been no announcement on a start date for the 2020-21 season, but launching the new season on 12 September remains the most likely option.
