Manchester United have reportedly taken the lead in the pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara, with the 29-year-old set to leave the German club this summer.
According to reports, Alcantara is unwilling to sign a new contract with Bayern Munich and is seeking a new challenge, with England being a preferred destination before he retires.
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that the club intends to cash in on Alcantara, rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
‘We had serious negotiations with him and fulfilled all of his wishes. But it looks like he might want to do something new again at the end of his career,’ Rummenigge told Bild.
Alcantara was close to joining Manchester United in 2013, but ultimately signed for Bayern Munich instead. He is now reportedly available for just £31million and is eager to test himself in the English Premier League.
