On July 15, 2020, the Ministry of Education gave Chuka University the green light to reopen after the institution met all government requirements to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
University Education and Research Principal Secretary Simon Nabukwesi announced that Chuka University would reopen in August, marking a significant milestone in the country's efforts to resume higher education during the pandemic.
Chuka University Vice-Chancellor Erastus Njoka welcomed the Ministry's approval, stating that his institution was committed to meeting the requirements for reopening.
As part of its preparations, the university will produce alcohol-based sanitizers and liquid handwashing soap for use by students and the neighboring community. The institution has also procured thermo-guns to monitor the temperatures of university students and staff, as well as visitors.
The phased reopening will begin with post-graduate students who will sit for their exams before September 1, followed by final year undergraduate students in September.
