On July 15, 2020, Kirinyaga County ward representatives made history by voting to reject Governor Anne Waiguru's 2020/21 budget for the second time.
At a heated meeting in Kerugoya town, 25 MCAs voted against Governor Waiguru's memorandum on the budget, which she had proposed in response to their suggested changes.
Only one ward representative supported the governor's memorandum, while another abstained from voting.
As a result, the remaining MCAs walked out of the Kirinyaga County Assembly's tent in protest.
