Dr. Doreen Adisa Lugaliki, a 38-year-old Kenyan doctor, was engaged to be married in November 2020, just a few months after her fiancé, Fred Mboss, proposed to her in January 2020.

The couple had been together since 2017 and were waiting for the government to open up Nairobi so they could visit Adisa's home in Bungoma, where they would have made dowry payments before the wedding.

However, on July 5, 2020, Adisa fell ill and Mboss rushed her to Aga Khan University Hospital, where she was diagnosed with diabetes and admitted at 10pm.

Her condition started to deteriorate on July 7, 2020, after she tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to the ICU.

Doctors established through contact tracing that Adisa contracted the virus from a colleague who contracted it from a patient at the Nairobi South Hospital where she worked as a gynaecologist.

Adisa succumbed to complications arising from Covid-19 early on July 10, 2020, leaving behind a fiancé, two daughters, and a community in shock.

Her fiancé, Fred Mboss, paid tribute to Adisa, saying, 'I loved her because of her beauty, character, and brains. Our parents were happy when we told them and they promised to support us.'

Adisa's sister, Carol Lugaliki, also paid tribute, saying, 'You were to wear a beautiful white gown, rest at Lee Funeral Home, and have your make up excellently done. We were to be in no hurry to bury you.'

Adisa was previously married to Kituku Kinyae in 2007 and left behind twins, Kyla Ndinda and Kyle Kimilu, in 2008.
