On July 5, 2020, Doreen Lugaliki, a dedicated gynecologist at Nairobi South Hospital, fell ill with COVID-19. The brave doctor, who was engaged to Fred Mboss, 45, had been planning to walk down the aisle in November 2020.

However, the novel coronavirus had other plans. Lugaliki's condition worsened, and she succumbed to the respiratory illness on July 10, 2020, at the age of 38.

According to Mboss, the couple had begun making wedding plans, which included a visit to Lugaliki's parents in Bungoma to ask for their blessings. The visit was to be followed by dowry payments before the wedding.

Speaking to The Star, Mboss revealed, "I loved her because of her beauty, character, and brains. Our parents were happy when we told them, and they promised to support us. The visit was to be followed by dowry payments before the wedding. The wedding plans were taking shape."

Lugaliki, a frontline worker in the fight against COVID-19, left behind two daughters, Kyla Ndinda and Kyle Kimilu, who were twins. She was buried on July 13, 2020, at her parents' home in Bungoma.
