On July 15, 2020, Kenya Airways marked a significant milestone in the country's post-COVID-19 recovery efforts by resuming its domestic flight services. The airline's Boeing 787 Dreamliner took to the skies once again, carrying passengers from Nairobi to Mombasa.

Kenya Airways had suspended its commercial passenger flights for over three months due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the country. The government had imposed a cessation of movement to some counties, bringing air travel to a standstill.

However, with the government announcing a phased reopening of the economy, Kenya Airways was able to resume its domestic flights. President Uhuru Kenyatta had announced on July 6 that domestic and international flights would resume in a phased manner.

According to the airline's schedule, flights will operate twice daily to Mombasa and once daily to Kisumu. The airline will continue to review its frequencies as demand picks up.

Kenya Airways celebrated its return to the skies with a tweet: 'After 99 days, our first commercial passenger flight has started boarding! Mombasa here we come #TheMagicAwaits #KQClearForTakeOff' (@KenyaAirways, July 15, 2020)
