On July 15, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued a stern directive to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) not to summon Deputy President William Ruto over any case.

The directive comes after reports that the Head of State had been turning down the sleuths' requests to summon the second-in-command to record a statement over various issues where the DP's name has been mentioned.

President Kenyatta has maintained that he has nothing against his deputy, despite allegations from the Tangatanga brigade allied to the DP that the President has sidelined DP Ruto.

According to reports, the Head of State might be protecting the Deputy President or not prepared to see the political outcome if the investigative agencies are given a chance to investigate the DP.

When the DP accused three Cabinet Secretaries of plotting to eliminate him last year, President Kenyatta directed the DCI to probe the threat on his Deputy's life immediately.

The three Cabinet Secretaries were summoned to the DCI headquarters to record a statement, but did not record a statement since the complainant had not recorded a formal statement regarding the matter.
