On July 15, 2020, the high court adjourned the murder case of lawyer Willie Kimani, taxi driver Joseph Muiruri, and boda boda rider Josephat Mwenda due to COVID-19 social distancing concerns.

Justice Jessie Lessit expressed concern that the Judiciary's small tent could not accommodate all parties, posing a health risk.

She had requested a bigger tent that could accommodate 100 people but received a smaller one that lacked space for social distancing.

The hearing was adjourned to Monday next week to allow the Judiciary to procure a bigger tent.

The case involves four police officers, Fredrick Leliman, Sylvia Wanjiru, Leonard Mwangi, and Stephen Cheburet, who are charged with the murder of Kimani, Mwenda, and Muiruri on June 23, 2016.

The accused have denied the charges.

The trio was kidnapped and murdered after leaving Mavoko law courts on June 23, 2016, following a session on an alleged traffic offence charged on Mwenda.
