Published on July 15, 2020, a group of pastors in Narok has expressed strong opposition to the proposed Reproductive Health Bill sponsored by Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.
The bill, which aims to improve reproductive health services, has been met with resistance from the Narok Pastors Fellowship, who claim it will encourage immorality among teenagers.
"The bill will encourage our young children to use contraceptives, hence encouraging them to engage in premature sex," said Bishop Peter Nakola, secretary of the fellowship.
The pastors are concerned that the bill will undermine cultural and religious beliefs, and have called for a consultative forum to discuss the proposed law.
However, a group of Members of Parliament and Civil Society has supported the move, arguing that it is time to bring the uncomfortable subject to the table.
Separately, the pastors have requested the government to relax the rules on church reopening, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as a reason.
