The Public Service Commission (PSC) has taken drastic measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 after 10 employees tested positive for the virus.
Acting Health Director-General Patrick Amoth explained that the decision to scale down operations was made to ensure social distancing among staff and limit further spread of the virus.
"We will take measures in government institutions to ensure that we limit further spread of the virus," Dr Amoth said.
According to PSC Chief Executive Simon Rotich, targeted testing revealed that 10 workers had contracted the virus, prompting the commission to restrict access to its offices for 14 days, effective July 13.
"In this regard, staff and interns will be required to proceed for self-isolation. During this period, access to commission offices will be restricted except where there is prior clearance," Mr Rotich said in a memo to the workers.
State House employees had previously tested positive for the virus, prompting President Uhuru Kenyatta to suspend physical engagements and implement a restricted access policy.
Essential staff at State House now operate from various government offices across the city, including NHIF and NSSF buildings, while older employees work from home.
Meanwhile, Huduma Centres have announced the temporary closure of some offices in Nairobi for fumigation as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise daily.
