USAID Impersonator Arrested for Defrauding Job Seekers

July 15, 2020, marked a significant milestone in the fight against cybercrime as detectives from the Overseas Criminal Investigation Office in Nairobi apprehended a 29-year-old suspect.

The suspect, identified as Paul Mwangi Njihia, had been using his fake online profile to pose as the General Manager of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Rift Valley region.

According to police, Njihia would target job seekers, issuing them with fake Gate Passes and demanding substantial facilitation fees, which were deposited into a bank account linked to the suspect.

As the investigation unfolds, Njihia is set to face charges of obtaining money by false pretences and personation.
