On a fateful night in August 2019, Bishop Francis Mugweru, a Kenyan preacher, met a tragic end. His lifeless body was discovered less than 500 meters from his residence in Kiganjo, Kiambu county, sparking a wave of shock and outrage.
According to reports, Mugweru was dragged from his house by unknown people on Thursday night before he was found dead. His body bore deep cuts and injuries on the head, indicating he may have been hit multiple times with a blunt object.
As the news of his murder spread, Mugweru's brother, Samuel Njuguna, called for speedy investigations and the arrest of those behind his death. 'We want justice for our slain brother, father, and spiritual leader. Police should leave no stone unturned until they apprehend those behind his death,' Njuguna urged.
It was not the first time Mugweru had found himself at the center of controversy. In 2013, he parted ways with his wife, Agnes Wangivi, and eloped with the spouse and kids of John Kanyua, one of his church members. Mugweru had even revealed plans to officiate his union with his new partner, Leah Wambui, saying, 'I am not ready for any reconciliation with my former wife. My decision to ditch her was final and I am forging forward with my preparations to formalise my new marriage.'
As the investigation into Mugweru's murder continues, one thing is clear: justice must be served for the slain bishop.
