On July 15, 2020, comedian Paul Wakimani Ogutu broke his silence on the lawsuit filed by the family of late comedian Ayeiya, who died in a car accident in which Wakimani was driving.
Wakimani was in the car with Ayeiya, his wife, and another friend when the accident occurred. He has been battling depression since then, and at one point, he even considered selling his kidney to pay the family's compensation demand of Sh21 million.
According to comedian Zeddy, who spoke on Jalango's YouTube Channel, Wakimani had confided in him about his struggles. 'There is a time we talked and he told me, 'Manze Zeddy, nimefika mwisho nataka kuchukua manila paper niende nikaueze figo pale nyayo [I have no other means and I'm contemplating selling my kidney],' Zeddy said.
Wakimani confirmed that Zeddy's statement was true, saying that Ayeiya's wife had served him with a court order demanding Sh21 million in compensation for her husband's death.
Wakimani explained that he had been trying to make amends with Ayeiya's family but to no avail. The case is currently in court, with the family's lawyer arguing that Ayeiya would have earned Sh300,000 per month and was supposed to retire at 55 years old. The lawyer calculated that Wakimani should pay for the remaining 24 years of Ayeiya's expected earnings, as well as damages.
