On July 15, 2020, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party in Kenya continued its purge of members deemed disloyal to the party and its leadership. The latest casualty is Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, who has been replaced as chairman of the party in his constituency.

The move comes just days after Twalib was de-whipped from the budget committee, and weeks after a purge on opposition members who were deemed to have shifted their allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto's camp.

According to the party's Mombasa branch chairman Geoffrey Busaka, Twalib's removal from the office of the chairman was due to his disloyalty to the party. The MP has been accused of abandoning party affairs in the constituency.

Twalib was part of the MPs kicked out on May 28th by a resolution of the Nasa Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting after a series of warnings that they desist from openly advancing Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, which is against the wish of Nasa.

The embattled lawmaker has been replaced in an acting capacity by Mikindani ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Renson Juma Thoya.
