On July 15, 2020, the High Court in Garsen ordered a mental assessment for Omar Lali, the boyfriend of the late Tecra Muigai, to determine his fitness to stand trial for her murder.
Justice Roselyn Korir directed that Lali undergo a mental examination at the Garissa Referral Hospital before he takes plea in court.
According to reports, Lali was arrested by police on suspicion that he had pushed Muigai to her death, which he denies.
There were claims that the two had an argument before she fell, but Lali's lawyer disputed these claims.
Detectives probing the matter reportedly faulted inconsistencies with Lali's account of how the deceased met her untimely death.
On May 27, 2020, Lali was released on a Sh300,000 bond and two sureties provided by his mother and brother-in-law, but was arrested on Monday for appearance in court.
Tecra Muigai died on May 2, 2020 after she fell at a private house in Shella, Lamu Island.
