Why Entrepreneurship May Not Be for Everyone

Published on July 15, 2020, in The Standard, this article highlights the importance of certain traits for successful entrepreneurship.

While entrepreneurship offers more freedom than employment, it requires discipline, charisma, and creativity. In fact, statistics show that 40% of startups fail due to a poor fit, followed closely by lack of time and involvement.

Entrepreneurs need to be visionaries, thinking on a big scale and dreaming big. They must be able to instill enthusiasm, drive, and perseverance in their team. Without a clear vision, any business venture is likely to fail.

Additionally, entrepreneurs need to be people persons, with charisma and good interpersonal skills. They must be able to negotiate with investors, venture capitalists, bank managers, clients, and customers. While people skills can be developed over time, they are essential for success.

Entrepreneurs must also be action-takers, willing to work on their ideas and take calculated risks. They need to be persistent, with a 'never say die' attitude, and be ready to push through obstacles and challenges.

Finally, entrepreneurs need to be creative thinkers, able to find solutions to ordinary problems and create new products or improve old ones. They must be willing to experiment and learn from experience.

While some people may have the necessary traits to succeed in entrepreneurship, others may find it challenging. It's essential to consider whether you have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur before making the leap.
