As of June 11, four COVID-19 cases had been reported at State House in Nairobi, with the situation escalating three days later when a local daily revealed that at least 15 more people had tested positive for the virus.

On July 12, 2020, Dennis Itumbi, the Head of Public Service, confirmed that the President had moved operations from State House to Harambee House, citing the need for tighter security measures.

President Uhuru Kenyatta has since shifted to Harambee House, where he has been working under tight security. His 9th address on COVID-19 was delivered from Harambee House last week, marking a significant shift from his previous seven addresses, which were delivered from State House.

Employees who reside within State House and their families are not allowed to leave the premises, with a truck delivering basic necessities from a local supermarket. A section of State House employees is now working from KICC, NHIF, and Harambee Annex, while most have been told to stay at home.
