Published on July 14, 2020, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho expressed his disappointment with the Court of Arbitration of Sport's (CAS) decision to overturn Manchester City's two-year UEFA ban from European football.

Manchester City was initially banned from European football for two years and fined 30 million euros by UEFA in February for violating Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations and failing to cooperate with the investigation.

However, the CAS reduced the fine to 10 million euros and overturned the ban, stating that City did not violate FFP rules by disguising equity funding as sponsorship.

"In any case, it's a disgraceful decision because if City are not guilty, then they should not be punished with the fine," Mourinho said in a virtual news conference ahead of Wednesday's clash against Newcastle United.

"If you're not guilty, you shouldn't have a fine. If they are guilty, the decision is also a disgrace, and they should be banned from the competition," Mourinho added.

Mourinho also expressed his opinion that UEFA's FFP rules need to be overhauled, stating that the system is not serving its purpose of preventing clubs from running big losses through player spending.

"I think this is going to be the end of Financial Fair Play because there is no point," Mourinho said. "I would like to see it used in a proper way."
