Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has linked rising cases of insecurity in the county to police officers who he claims are accomplices in crime.

Speaking to journalists, Cherargei revealed that six people had been murdered in the last one month, and he gave the government a two-day ultimatum to solve the insecurity in the region.

Failure to do so, he warned, would lead to people taking matters into their own hands.

Cherargei also asked the government to compensate families who had lost their loved ones through police brutality, saying that compensation was pivotal since the kin lost their sole breadwinners and were left with no one to fend for them.

He identified the latest victim as Zakayo Kipkinyor, who was killed on the night of Sunday, July 12, and also mentioned other victims such as Lazarus Tirop, Cornelius Kipkogei, Timothy Kipyego, Kevin Kipchumba, and Boniface Kiprotich.

Cherargei called on Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to ensure the criminals had been brought to book.

He also linked the rising cases of insecurity in the county to police officers who he said were accomplices in crime.

Cherargei asked Matiang'i to intervene on matters of insecurity in the county, saying that killings by police and unknown people were of great concern.

He also revealed that a police officer had shot a cobbler, Lazarus Tirop, on the head at close range after a commotion ensued between the three over a KSh 50 bribe.
