Published on July 14, 2020, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced higher fuel prices for the next 30 days, affecting motorists across the country.
The price of super petrol has increased by Sh11.38 per litre, while diesel and kerosene have seen price hikes of Sh17.30 and Sh2.98 per litre respectively.
According to EPRA, the prices are inclusive of the revised rates for Petroleum Development Levy on Super Petrol and Diesel, as well as an 8% Value Added Tax (VAT) as per the Finance Act 2018 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020.
The price increase is attributed to the average landed cost of imported super petrol, which rose by 12.64% from $248.21 per cubic metre in May 2020 to $279.58 per cubic metre in June 2020. Diesel prices also increased by 32.16% from $228.62 per cubic metre to $302.15 per cubic metre.
EPRA Director General Robert Pavel explained that there was no kerosene discharged at the port of Mombasa during the period under review.
