On July 14, 2020, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya posted a photo on Twitter of himself flagging off a lorry at a water project site in Shinyalu, Kakamega County, worth Sh90 million.

However, eagle-eyed Kenyans quickly pointed out that the lorry's registration number, KBX 092J, matched that of a bus involved in a fatal road accident in Kericho in October 2018.

The 2018 accident claimed over 55 lives, and police had arrested the owners of the bus just a day after the incident.

It remains unclear what happened to the bus after the owners were arrested and how the registration number ended up on the lorry.
