BREAKING: Bluebird Aviation Plane Crashes in Beledweyne, Somalia

On July 14, 2020, a plane operated by Bluebird Aviation crashed at Ugas Khalif Airport in Beledweyne, Somalia, during a landing attempt.

The de Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 turboprop plane, registration number 5Y-VVU, was chartered by the US Department of Defense in support of the AMISOM mission in the area.

According to Ahmed Moalin Hassan, Somalia's Director of Civil Aviation, the flight manifest indicated that the plane was carrying food supplies.

The airport in Beledweyne has been temporarily closed following the incident.

Bluebird Aviation's plane was one of two aircraft traveling together; the second plane was redirected to Mogadishu.

This is the fourth aviation accident in Somalia in the last four months.
