On Monday, workers at a construction site along Nairobi's 3rd Parklands Avenue fled when NMS Director General Mohammed Badi arrived dressed in military gear to reclaim the land.

Badi, who was accompanied by area MCA Jayendra Malde, Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, and a contingent of police, arrived at the site and stopped construction works.

The foundations for the building had already been done, and work on concrete pillars was ongoing for proposed high-rise flats.

According to Badi, a public hospital will be put up on the land, as part of the Nairobi Metropolitan Services' (NMS) pledge to construct 24 fully functional hospitals in informal settlements.

“In my next 100 days, I intend to achieve building 24 fully functional hospitals in Nairobi’s informal settlements,” said Badi, who has been credited for transforming the city’s look in the first three months.

Published on July 14, 2020, Badi's vision for the city includes not only hospitals but also modernizing the city's infrastructure, including the installation of 100 boreholes with pumps to ensure 24-hour delivery of water to residents in need.

He asked Nairobi residents to be calm, assuring them that “there are a lot of good things coming”.
