On July 14, 2020, Kenya witnessed its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases, with 497 new infections reported by the Health ministry.
According to the ministry, the new cases bring the nationwide tally to 10,791, with five more people succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities in Kenya to 202.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi made the announcement during a daily briefing in Nairobi, where she also revealed that the number of recoveries rose to 3,017 after 71 more patients were discharged.
The new cases were reported in various counties, with Nairobi leading the pack with 292 cases, followed by Kiambu with 62, and Kajiado with 51.
Meanwhile, the number of healthcare workers who have contracted Covid-19 has grown by 264 over the last 14 days, with 41 cases reported at Pumwani Maternity Hospital.
Health Services Director-General Patrick Amoth noted that 414 of the healthcare workers were asymptomatic, while the rest had varying underlying conditions.
