On July 14, 2020, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi sparked a heated debate with his claims that the GEMA community, which elevated Deputy President William Ruto to his current position, now fears him and wants him to fail in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to Ngunyi, the GEMA community's strategy was to bring Ruto up to tear him down, a plot that he claims is working well. He argued that the community fears Ruto and is doing everything in their power to bring him down.
"Afraid of Ruto, Gema strategy was simple: ‘…people bring you up to tear you down’ to tear Ruto down, GEMA had to bring him up. Logic? ‘…the only time you start from the top is when you are digging a hole’ if you bring Ruto up, and put him on top, he will dig his own hole," Ngunyi posted.
The remarks came amid infighting in the ruling Jubilee Party, where Ruto has been isolated and his allies kicked out from plum positions in the Senate and National Assembly.
