On July 14, 2020, Bamburi Cement Ltd pledged Ksh15.6 million to aid in the fight against Covid-19. The company's contribution is a testament to its commitment to supporting the community and economy during this crisis.
Of the amount, Ksh5 million was donated directly to the government's Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund, established by President Uhuru Kenyatta to mobilize resources and support the fight against the spread of Coronavirus.
Additionally, Ksh5.52 million was allocated for the purchase of Personal Protective Equipment for caregivers in public hospitals and digital thermometers for use at hospitals, dispensaries, and by Rapid Response teams.
The company also utilized Ksh2.4 million to support communities in Mombasa, Kilifi, Machakos, Kwale, and Kajiado with handwashing water tanks, face masks, and sanitizers.
Bamburi Cement Group Managing Director Seddiq Hassani stated that the contributions were made to provide humanitarian support to vulnerable members of society. He emphasized the company's desire to partner with stakeholders to provide intervention in areas of need.
As a key player in the building and construction industry, Mr. Hassani acknowledged the company's important role in supporting the community and economy during this crisis. He noted that the company's Health and Safety policy guided its decision to support the fight against Covid-19.
Since the announcement of the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in March 2020, Bamburi has been supporting local vulnerable communities at its various sites of operations. The company continues to work with different stakeholders to meet different needs and interventions related to the pandemic.
Mr. Hassani expressed optimism that with the enforcement of emergency measures, the country has the resilience to overcome the negative impact of the pandemic on the economy. The company remains cautiously optimistic in its business projections.
In addition to its financial contributions, Bamburi has been ensuring the welfare of its staff by issuing them with Covid-19 care packs containing face masks, sanitizers, digital thermometers, and surgical gloves. The company has also been organizing webinars for its employees to discuss topical issues related to the pandemic.
