On July 14, 2020, Kandara MP Alice Wahome released a video addressing President Uhuru Kenyatta after she was removed from her chair position at the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.
According to reports, the Jubilee Party was considering handing over positions in the Senate and National Assembly to leaders from the minority faction.
"Some members were dethroned but when you look at the performance, no problem. What we are saying is the persons to take over these jobs must not be from the minority," she stated.
Wahome argued that the move was illegal and unconstitutional, as the majority and minority sections had their roles clearly defined in the constitution.
She advised the president against allowing the appointment of minority members of parliament into the positions they lost.
Wahome was among 16 Jubilee MPs who were ejected from their respective Parliamentary Committees on June 18, 2020.
These legislators included Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru, and Bomet Woman Representative Joyce Chepkoech Korir.
Wahome's statement came after a report by Daily Nation indicated that the Jubilee party had awarded slots to ODM leaders at the expense of Deputy President William Ruto's allies.
