Justice System Under Scrutiny ¶
July 14, 2020
Kenyan citizens are raising questions about the fairness of the justice system after Omar Lali, the boyfriend of late Keroche heiress Tecra Muigai, was rearrested and charged with her murder. The case has sparked a heated debate, with many expressing sympathy for Lali, who is struggling financially.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the case, which is set for mentioning on July 14. However, the contrast between Lali's situation and that of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has left many feeling frustrated.
Babu Owino was implicated in an attempted murder case following a shooting at Nairobi's B Club in January 2020, which left DJ Evolve bedridden. Despite the bulk of evidence, the case has stalled, and Owino remains at large.
Meanwhile, DJ Evolve has spent over five months in the hospital undergoing surgeries and receiving home-based care. The disparity in treatment has sparked outrage among Kenyans, who feel that justice is not being served equally.
As the case against Lali continues to unfold, many are calling for a re-examination of the justice system and the handling of high-profile cases.
