Published on July 14, 2020, a remarkable story of perseverance and community support emerged from Butali Village in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County.
A 35-year-old man, Douglas Olumwachi, a father of two, had been evading circumcision for over 20 years.
According to his father, Francis Olumwachi, Douglas had devised various ways to avoid the initiation ritual since his teenage years.
Speaking about his son's decision to finally undergo circumcision, Francis expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am now glad my son can join the table of men."
For Douglas, the relief was palpable as he expressed his gratitude to the community for organizing his circumcision, stating, "I am grateful to the community for organising my circumcision. I can now rest easy without fearing that they would come for me in subsequent initiation seasons."
