Bodyguard to Mombasa Governor Tests Positive for Covid-19 ¶
A bodyguard attached to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has tested positive for Covid-19, sparking panic among the governor's staff.
The bodyguard, who escorted Joho to Nairobi for Senate hearings, tested positive after the sessions. He was among four bodyguards who were quarantined at Mombasa Beach Hotel after returning to Mombasa.
According to sources, the bodyguard was asymptomatic and did not require hospitalization. The governor and his staff undergo routine testing for Covid-19 every two weeks.
Mombasa county is second only to Nairobi in terms of infection rates, with 1,726 cases as of Monday.
When contacted, the county's chief of staff, Joab Tumbo, claimed he was not aware of the issue, despite Mombasa Beach Hotel being a government facility.
Attempts to reach the county health executive, Hazel Koitaba, were futile, with her texting back to say she was in a meeting.
