Published on July 14, 2020, reports emerged that a bodyguard to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho had tested positive for Covid-19 and was sent to quarantine with three others.

County chief of staff Job Tumbo denied the reports, stating that the information had yet to reach him. He promised to get back to the matter.

The development comes after Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed traveled to Dubai by private jet, sparking an online uproar over the cost to taxpayers.

The return ticket on the Airbus A318-112 (CJ) Elite A6-CAS, MS4211, is estimated to have cost Ksh 13 million, with an additional Ksh 1.3 million per hour for the five hours they used to land in Dubai.

It is also possible that they were charged extra for food and drinks based on their preferences and the number of crew members they requested.

The plane will also charge them for the hours it stayed on the ground in Nairobi and Dubai before jetting back to Nairobi.
