On July 14, 2020, former K24 news anchor Betty Kyalo re-launched her salon, Flair By Betty, after a makeover, sparking speculations from her critics.

During the launch, Kyalo revealed that she did not have enough cash to place a down payment on the new premises but was able to raise it after two weeks.

"When my landlord told me that he would rent out this space to me, I cried; not immediately, but later. It was a big deal for me. I had been looking for a new location," Kyalo said.

However, media personality Swaleh Mdoe wrote a cryptic post on social media, suggesting that some beauty salons and spas are owned by sponsors using female celebrities as fronts.

Responding to the allegations, Kyalo claimed that her business was actually funded by her mother, not sponsors.

"By the way, you should talk to my mother, she has been my pillar financially and emotionally. One thing that running a business has taught me is that there's no shame in asking for assistance," Kyalo said.

She also revealed that remodeling the whole place cost her over four million shillings.
